The third day is when cows are celebrated in the mornings , you see cows are sacred in Hinduism , it ’ s the reason you see so many just wandering the streets of many cities in Nepal and India , they have the run of the place , and in many ways we are all a little better for it .

Mahalaksmi , the goddess of prosperity , has a presence in the anus of all cows , who am I to judge , if someone wants to live in an arse that ’ s not for me to pass comment . On a more practical level cows are considered an animal that causes little problems and provides much more than it takes , milk , cheese , butter , and dung are all a good starting place . I found myself again questioning why they aren ’ t too celebrated every day .
The mention of Mahalakshmi draws into the most important celebration of Tihar , for Lakshmi is the patron goddess of the festival and is welcomed into every household especially those that have been cleaned and decorated with marigolds , red paint , and cow dung , as well as intricate rangolis of various designs , all with a candle placed in the centre .
