first camp site I came to in the Sarca river valley , the air was warm , and I was dry . I managed to buy a bottle of beer at the reception before it closed , and I had my tent up just as it was getting dark .
I could hear the rain on my tent , as I lay there in the morning and I didn ’ t bother to get up until 9am . A shower , a tiny sized coffee , and I was out on the road to Riva del Garda . This lakeside town was attractive , as expected ; a grand old place squeezed into a strip of land between the water and the sheer-sided mountain .
I spent some hours getting myself confused , and damp , by seeking out an interesting diversionary route through some remote mountain hideaways in the cloud : Rovereto to Vicenza , via a place called Schio , and this was a great little ride . The tiny road up from the town was hard to find and so narrow , with tight turns through the trees that challenged
