miles through stunning landscapes we made it to Wendover as the organisers announced that the Salt would be opened the following day . The tiny town was packed with cars and trailers waiting on the streets for the Salt to be finally opened . Tuesday morning the racing folks moved over to the salt flats and setup their paddocks to be ready for next day ’ s racing .
Fifteen centimetres of water welcomed everyone at the entrance area and the paddock was still soaked yet at least the shorter five-kilometre track , of the two tracks , was opened on Wednesday to the motorcycles and some of the slower cars . The atmosphere was familiar , drivers and start marshals greeted each other and everyone was happy that Speed Week could take place after such a long preparation period .
A fairly wide range of vehicles was at the start , all of them driven by the Bonneville myth and the inner urge to drive as fast as possible . Following in the footsteps of Burt
