Yes . A yacht club in the middle of the desert . It ’ s a living museum to a quirk that still remains for when the Cooper Creek and Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre flood they both can be navigated by water vessel .
Within Marree everything points to a past , one that came to rushing halt in the early 1980s when the train line was no longer considered viable , eventually switching to what is now known as the Ghan , some three hundred kilometres to the west .
Other towns in the region felt a similar fate that first started with Farina which started in 1884 when the railhead was moved , ironically to Marree . The last people
at the end of two iconic outback tracks the Marree Hotel offers a welcome relief to the land of dust
