Stepping through the doorway was special , a foot placed over the threshold was something I will never forget as we were transported further back and into the lives of ordinary Colombians .
“ The house was restored by my grandfather ,” explained Miguel . “ He believed in keeping it traditional .”
It was traditional , simple in design yet well thought through with an exceptional level of craftsmanship . If these walls could talk they would have more than a volume ’ s worth of stories to tell .
La Toba , the name of the quaint dwelling , was indeed “ the tuff ”, feeling immediately at home I wondered if the name referred to Miguel ’ s grandfather or his family as he extolled the history of the house and how it came to be in the family . Apparently , its recent history was dictated to by the local laws .
Barichara , isn ’ t a tourist town , although many now visit to witness
