Navigation tools are necessary when exploring the world , what you choose is dependant on your preferences , your abilities , and often your location . Paper maps might be old school , but in many ways they are still old school cool .
Hema has long been a leader in navigational products , especially paper maps , and more so
in Australia . We use Hema maps when exploring the wilds of the Australian continent , sometimes even New Zealand , the paper ones that is , we won ’ t discuss the digital product now , perhaps never .
Hema has been around for over forty years and in that time has perfected the art of creating maps , with a focus on those that cater to the more adventurous . The level of detail is astounding , providing the explorer with a level of confidence that will see them take on most challenges based on the information provided .
With a team known as the Map Patrol , Hema explore what they are mapping to ensure that all data , information and cartography is precise and accurate , for the most part it is however , like anything in the nondigital world Hema ’ s maps can outdate very quickly , we ’ ve discovered tracks that no longer exist or routes no longer passable . It ’ s a downside of using a paper map .
The upsides are plentiful . Hema maps are reproduced on gloss , often waterproof paper , and easily fold to a size that provides easy storage in a tank bag or backpack . The quality is
