TRAVERSE 126
As a college student , Amanda Zito started travelling by motorcycle , initially not for the love of two wheels but more out of necessity , to travel on a budget . It was this frugal approach to motorcycle travel that led to a need to prepare and cook her own food .
“ I grew up in a house that relied on a wood stove ,” Amanda explains . “ So , unlike many people , babysitting a campfire has never been my idea of a good time .”
Ruling campfires out , along with the prohibitive cost of commercial freeze dried and foil pack meals , led this adventurous traveller to rely on cans of soup and oatmeal breakfasts as a way of obtaining nourishment , something that soon became boring . “ Safe to say I got sick of eating canned soup .” This led Amanda to a path of discovery as she sought better options and more nutritional meals . A process that started in 2016 as she consumed as many cookery books as possible , everything based around camping and nothing that met the requirements .
