TRAVERSE 48
The cockpit , on the older model , is well designed and simple , it ’ s another aspect of the T7 that makes it feel race ready . Our bar position could ’ ve done with some adjustment and even slightly wider bars would ’ ve suited . Overall , the ergonomics felt like the T7 was designed for a standing position and yet seated it felt correct too despite the Yamaha rally seat feeling like a house brick after the first fifty kilometres .
The Yamaha T7 provides a level of nostalgia , a bike that is basic beyond belief , and yet one that would be perfect in its simplicity for the overlander whilst providing a level of mischief for those so inclined . The ride is comfortable and assertive , although our bike struggled with gear changing at times and with less than ten thousand kilometres on the clock it was a little worrying .
Everything about the T7 fits the bill , especially for those wanting to experience more of an off-road adventure , and yet it is perfectly capable for the highway cruiser . It was hard to find fault with the T7 , and what we did was minor , almost insignificant . With a few small modifications Yamaha ’ s Ténéré 700 could well be near a perfect adventure bike and one well suited to the overlanding rider , and with it ’ s value for money price who would dare argue ?
