All tours start and end at the Ecuador Freedom headquarters , right in the centre of Quito , yet close to the tunnel that allows for an easy exit out of the bustling city . The company has been doing this for 15 years , so they are experts , and everything is managed very professionally , but above all they are a really nice bunch , so you feel right at home among like-minded mates .
After more offers of coffee and water than you can handle while loading the bike you chose from a fleet of well-serviced Suzuki DRZs , BMWs , Triumph Tigers , and the light Honda XRE , to name but a few , there ’ s an introduction to the route and to Ecuadorian driving habits , so you comfortably know what to expect .
For guided tours , if you haven ’ t already during the loading frenzy , this is when you meet your guide Jhordy and support truck driver Camilo for groups over five bikes , both locals with excellent mechanical , riding , and English skills , who love exploring Ecuador in their free time . The tours range from entirely on blacktop to offroad , so you can choose what best fits your riding style . Ecuadorian roads can be a little unpredictable , with landslides and roadworks digging up dirt roads and even the best riders can get caught out . The guides are always there to help you pick up the bike , ride it out if you wish , and make repairs to keep you going .
You are also introduced to “ the baby ” - a little doll that you earn if you drop your bike . The idea is that you ’ ll be more careful next time with a “ baby on board ” - a source of much banter and camaraderie along the trip .
