TRAVERSE 12
heading west , across the worlds second highest mountain range and into a region rich with the history of colonial Colombia that dates back more than five hundred years .
Following the Rio Magdelena , a first night is spent in the heritage town of Honda . Once a port of significance Honda takes its name from the Indigenous Ondaimas people that once inhabited the area . It ’ s known as the “ city of bridges ” and its easy to see why as the once busy port town needed many ways to access the transport roads of the past .
A night in Honda is a night back in history , streets constructed almost five hundred year earlier play host to a cultural experience like no other , capped off with an invitation to experience the friendliness of the Colombian people , and a restful sleep in an almost three-hundred-year-old Spanish Colonial hotel . It ’ s just one night of many living local and sampling the past and an easier paced life , a ride with Motodreamer will see you experience the local in historic towns , the larger ‘ party ’ cities , and luxurious jungle escapes . Town squares play host to a myriad of experiences , small cafés , hidden bars , traditional bands , all an open street theatre of experiences that draw you in and leave you wanting more .
Back on the road there ’ s modern highways , alpine passes , and colourful towns ,
