GWALIA WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Western Australia has a long history when it comes to mining , especially gold . A history that is plentiful with the struggles of outback life in a harsh environment as tough as anywhere on Earth .
Make the journey out past Kalgoorlie and head north a few hundred kilometres and you ’ ll reach a town called Leonora , then just a handful of kilometres away you ’ ll find a unique experience , a glimpse into the life of a goldfields miner . The Gwalia Ghost Town is just three and a half kilometres from Leonora and is a window into a rich gold mining history .
Towards the end of the 19th century a township formed around the Sons of Gwalia gold mine , it quickly became a thriving community of around 1200 people . Unfortunately , nothing lasts forever and seventy years after opening , the
