More urban landscapes also have their own idiosyncrasies , and like natural landscapes they require a little thought . Decide what makes the scene unique , what tells of the city , tells a story of the people . Try wide shots as well as more detailed , focus on the elements and the structures such as the streets , the transport , the construction .
Portraiture is another area that tells a great story and yet most travellers get this wrong . Firstly , enough with the selfies , these are just a narcissistic way to prove you were somewhere and for the most part no one really cares . Sure , selfies are great for personal viewing but as a story telling image they simply do not work . Seek the local people in a respectful and kind manner . Never just rip out your camera and start shooting , try to sit down , speak with , engage the person , and show that you are genuinely interested in their life and surroundings . Then explain that you want to take a photograph . Most people will reciprocate and even be flattered that you find them interesting enough .
