TRAVERSE :

Nominations & More ...

The past few months have been a little odd at Traverse HQ , quiet on the riding front , stuck in the office reading of everyone else ’ s adventures , never a bad thing .

Emails have come and been replied to and yet one sticks as being a reason why we do what we do at Traverse . Yes , the bikes are important but it ’ s where the bikes take us that ’ s more important . You see , we received an email from Lisette in France who wanted to thank us for the story about the Rohingya refugees , she felt it was an important issue that a bike traveller had come across and so did we . Lisette ’ s letter is later in this issue .
The past few weeks have also seen Traverse nominated for one of Australia ’ s most prestigious journalism awards for the photo essay we did as part of the story “ Adversity , Heartbreak , And A Lesson In Life ” ( Traverse Issue 35 ). That story was the experience of visiting Cambodia ’ s Phsar Chnang village just days after a fire raged through the stilted township . The devastation was heartbreaking and yet the resilience of the people was a lesson on how we should all conduct ourselves .
We didn ’ t win any awards , it matters little , the nomination was enough to prove that travel of all sorts should be about confronting ones emotions and learning from the experience , the bikes are just a means to discovery .
Regardless of what you ride we want to hear from you , to share your experience , your discoveries , your meeting of the refugees , the recently homeless , the shepherds on the steppe , the fishermen of the lake , the executive getting dirty .
Let your bike take you places that not only challenge your skills but challenge your perception , emotions , and memories … oh , and we do have plenty of that in this issue …
