TRAVERSE 230
The Ernie Diaries Anne Betts & Des Molloy 2023 ) ISBN 978-0-473-67443-4
Ernie is a 1957 500cc Norton ES2 , already aging by the time Des Molloy and Anne Betts jumped onboard and the three rode off from Britain to explore Europe and the Middle East .
In the early 1970s the region was a much different place , politics were heightened by the Cold War , the Middle East was still in some level of peace and what this trio of Aussie , Kiwi and aging motorcycle discovered was a world filled with wonderment , of cultures vastly different , landscapes challenging , and people more or less the same .
The Ernie Diaries is as suggests , a travelogue compiled of the diaries of both Betts and Molloy , as well as recollections of the experiences of four months on the road riding from London to Iran . Despite the passing of time the story is told like it was yesterday providing the reader with insightful descriptions of lands so very different to the eyes of twenty-somethings .
Fifty years later we are supposed to have become more enlightened and yet poignantly it seems what Betts and Molloy went through in the 1970s is little different to the challenges faced today for travellers of the Middle East .
Ernie himself , provides enough challenges and yet like a hardened traveller he continues on providing the humans of the trio with experiences that only mechanical challenges can provide . The Ernie Diaries covers it all and will have you marvelling at how they did it in times before extremely reliable machinery and digital devices . The Ernie Diaries is proof that the innocence of youth and a determined spirit will have you seeing the world with very different eyes … it ’ s a must read .
Tapestry Of LIfe : Woven In Verse Kamlesh Kaltari 2023 ASIN B0CKRM5KV4
Thirty-six poems that explore life , the meaning of , the affects of others , relationships , spirituality and more , that is the Tapestry of Life : Woven In Verse .
Kamlesh Kaltari , a motorcycle traveller , has written and compiled a collection of verses that delve into what it means to be human . Some are by his own hand and others from Hindi verse that has been translated into English .
It ’ s a unique collection that explores the highs and the lows of humanity through a threaded tapestry that completes the collection of what makes us . Each poem written from the heart , some with a naïve innocence whilst others are earnest and thought provoking .
Kaltari has created a collection that demonstrates how travel can affect the mind , the heart , the sole and has penned his innermost feelings .
Tapestry of Life : Woven In Verse is an engaging collection , that might not be for all , yet should open opportunities to explore ones own feelings . Perhaps the only aspect that detracts from the experience is a series of crib notes for each poem explaining the meaning and reasons for the verse . Our opinion is ignore these and make your own judgement by being guided by your own feelings that are invoked … it ’ s what poetry should create within the reader that is important .
Have a look at Tapestry Of Life : Woven In Verse and see what it brings to you .
