Przhevalsky was able to present his discoveries to Russian officials who believed this to be the first time a European had seen the area since Marco Polo .
While wandering Central Asia Przhevalsky penned five books outlining his discoveries , two of which have been translated to English however , many present days scholars suggest the geographer was little more than an Imperialist scout looking for ways for Russia to annex China and the “ dregs of the human race ” as he described the peoples of the region .
