BDR routes not only encourage riders to embrace travel and adventure but also to seek new routes that encompass smaller communities that might often be overlooked . Each BDR route brings a commercial impact to hotels , campgrounds , restaurants , fuel stations , as well as grocery stores and more . This is often in areas where economic fortunes have taken a downturn , impacted by industry closures such as mining , forestry , and manufacturing . It ’ s recognised that BDR brings millions of dollars ’ worth of revenue to these communities .
" For the communities along the route , it brings a steady stream of adventure riders ," suggested rider Jason Fiske of New Jersey . " That ' s generally fifty-plus year olds , affluent people , through their towns looking for food and lodging . " Importantly , this demographic is also low key and well behaved ."
