the Baroque , has in Via Vittorio Emanuele its flagship jewel . When its buildings are tinged with red in the evening , one gets the impression of being on a film set , it is so magnificent .
The SP19 points straight towards the geographical extreme south of Italy and allowed us to stop first at the Villa Romana del Tellaro with its mosaics and then at the unmissable Wildlife Oasis of Vendicari . Sitting in the small observation hut , we captured with our lens some specimens of pink flamingos wintering in these placid waters . The old disused tuna fishery is the perfect example of industrial archeology and tells us stories that are now ancient when the Florio family exported the precious artefact all over the world .
As we reached Portopalo di Capo
Passaro a plaque reminded us that Ulysses landed here during his journey and Saint Paul on his pilgrimage from Malta to Rome . We were in the southernmost point of our beautiful peninsula , it was impossible to find a better place to end our pilgrimage . FC
