We spent Christmas evening in Milazzo , after reaching the pool of Venus , a pool of natural water surrounded by rocks and reefs located on the tip of the promontory . The short walk allowed us to admire the sun setting over the turquoise waters , before learning more about the local cuisine .
In the Peloritani mountains it is possible to climb , following the provincial road 50 to the peak of Dinnammare , which dominates Messina and its majestic strait .
The origin of the cult of the Madonna dates back to the story that a shepherd from Larderia witnessed a miracle involving a statue of the Madonna found on the summit and brought to the village . Three times the shepherd , when he awoke , did not find the statue in the house but in the place where he had found it the previous day . The inhabitants interpreted the episodes as the desire of the Madonna to stay up there on top of the mountain , and they had a church built exactly on the point where she had wanted to return .
