climb than its namesake .
Issues included almost everything you could think of , especially when it came to overall quality . Welds would give way just by looking at them , frames would crack , paint would flake , steel would rust . Some suggest that was just in the showrooms . To Royal Enfield ’ s credit they listened to the feedback provided by owners , and did a little about it , in fact the current iteration of the model stills sees paint flake , rust develop , and frames crack . And recently , there ’ s been a recall affecting the brakes , which are of course now ABS , perhaps the old system was better at offering some level of stopping power .
A highlight of the Royal Enfield ABS system is that it can be fully switched off to the rear wheel . A simple switch is all it took , nothing fancy , and it works well .
Rust and frame cracks are another issue . Rust can still be found forming on all new bikes , nothing is immune to it , frame , nuts , bolts , wheels , everything . While paint primer and finish are the main issue it must be said that the quality of materials and manufacturing are also to blame , it ’ s a similar issue that has caused frames to crack . We ’ ve seen frames crack on a number of rides , and in all sorts of places , none more worrisome than the headstem . All have been welded , generally meaning great meetings with local people , a positive has to be found somewhere , right ?
