Another Journey Through Britain Mark Probert 2020 ISBN 978-1-9163056-0-1
It ' s not so much an epic journey as a ride across ones own country and for many that is the epitome of adventure .
Mark Probert took on such a challenge , following the 1960s book Journey Through Britain by John
Hillaby leading to an adventure in a very different world , discovering what has changed and what has remained the same .
Probert ' s Another Journey Through Britain is an interesting look at home , proving that this is where adventure often begins .
Written well enough to keep the reader engaged , Another Journey Through Britain displays an understanding that adventure is what the observer makes of it . Danger , risk , breakdowns or more are not required , it ' s how the story teller sees the world that is important . Probert is a master of that to the point that this 240 page book could ' ve easily been longer even when leaving out the annoying references to products used on his ride ... unfortunately these come across as either trying to sell or gain sponsorship ... please writers leave this sort of story telling out , it ' s as boring as an Instagram influencer .
Flaws aside , Probert ' s Another Journey Through Britain is worth the read , especially if you are looking for home bound adventure .
Genghis Khan and the Making Of THe Modern World Jack Weatherford 2004 ISBN 978-0-609-80964-8
Genghis Khan as we in the West know him is undoubtably the creator of th modern world , a task taken on 800 years ago , yet our teachers would have us believe he was a tyrant that destroyed civilisations and brought misery to most .
Jack Weatherford ' s 2004 Genghis Khan & The Making Of The Modern World is an exploration of what really occured during the time of the great Mongol Empire and how it shaped our world through tolerance , learning , and understanding .
Reading like an epic novel and well researched travelogue , Genghis Khan traces the early days of his being and how that shaped his view of that around him . In his short reign Genghis Khan shaped the world like no other , his empire was greater than that of the Romans , Greeks or Egyptians combined , spanning two thirds of the known world , creating international commerce , diplomatic law , and a respectful tolerence of all religions .
As a respected anthropologist Weatherford has compiled a thorough understanding of the legend of Genghis Khan ( Chinggis Khaan to the Mongolian people ), the Mongol Empire and the modern day country .
If you ' re a fan of history then this book is for you , if you are looking at a travel guide , or how to write one , then this is more so for you . A great read !
