It ' s estimated that a total of 1.8 million Rohingya have been displaced and whilst Bangladesh has taken most , many have also fled to neighbouring or nearby countries such as Thailand , Malaysia , and Indonesia . And it ’ s Malaysia where we met up with Kiran Kreer and an organisation known as the Children of Rohingya .
Children of Rohingya was started by Kreer in October of 2022 after the adventure travelling motorcyclist spent time on Malaysia ’ s Langkawi Island where an estimated 250 refugeed Rohingya families live .
Kreer is no stranger to the plight of the marginalised . Realising that seeking the approval of others and the constraints of consumeristic society was holding him back , he gave up a professional career in his home country of Malaysia in 2012 and saw it as a way of learning more about his home and further afield whilst discovering who Kiran Kreer actually was .
A year later that led him to the Philippines where he had volunteered with a non-profit organisation to help with relief aid after Typhoon Haiyan .
“ It was the hardest , yet [ most ] fulfilling experience I ’ ve had in my life ,” Kreer explains about the millions of people who lost their homes . In fact , Kreer decided to remain to document the situation through photography , a passion of his since his teens .
This initiative was to forever change his life as he sought social projects to help the people , “ it wasn ’ t easy to live here but it was true life to me ”.
Numerous projects have been undertaken since leaving the Philippines , projects that have seen Kreer travel the world ,
