route then requires crossing the Pieman River where Corinna sits on the northern bank via the “ fatman ” punt . The Pieman River is a wide waterway that once provided access to the township and with its chequered history is a great place to explore including the Savage River that flows into the Pieman .
A short walk , or kayak ride , will get you to the Savage to explore the remnants of another township and the remains of what is considered Australia ’ s most inland shipwreck . Gold was found in such tributaries as the Savage driving the quick growth and history that remains .
Exploration is a highlight of Corinna , as the surrounding bushland is scattered with remnants of the past , both Aboriginal and European .
