Motorcycle intercom systems seem to come and go as often as Apple release a new iPhone yet one system , by a market leader , has been a stalwart , a staying , and well over 10 years since it was first released it ’ s still a favourite amongst riders .
The Sena SMH10 , released over a decade ago , is still selling mainly thanks to its simple and
yet functional design . Yes , there ’ s many newer options from all manufacturers however , it ’ s hard to go past the ruggedness of the SMH10 with many riders suggesting that they are still getting good use from the device .
Initially the SMH10 was claimed by Sena to have a talk time over around 12 hours , we originally found that it was closer to 15 hours and now after around 10 years of use it has dropped to just below 12 hours . Impressive for a device that has seen many , many days of longdistance travel and use .
Audio volume and mic pickup were class leaders in the early 2010s and amazingly , the SMH10 remains a reliable unit that performs well when I conversation as well as listening to music or directions . The SMH10 is Bluetooth compatible with any number of devices .
The beauty of the Sena SMH10 is the jog dial , it ’ s a simple design that has been copied many times and still can ’ t be beaten . It ’ s simple to use without the need for understanding cumbersome menu formats , and it ’ s large enough that a gloved hand can easily adjust the settings .
Fitting the SMH10 to a helmet is a simple process that literally takes just a few minutes , and once in place , the rider barely notices it being there .
The range of the SMH10 is around 900 metres , perhaps outperformed by
