TRAVERSE 192
Suspicious ! It ’ s the only way to describe how we felt when presented with a few packets of freeze-dried ice cream . Yeah , how does that work ?
Campers Pantry has joined forces with another Tasmanian business , Van Diemens Land Creamery to create what can only be described as one of the most
unusual camping meals we ’ ve come across , yet we ’ re not ones to judge without sampling .
Everyone loves ice cream , right ? So how does it work that you can carry a ‘ packet ’ of the delicious cold treat with you ? Well , it ’ s freeze dried into chunks that look nothing like the name suggests , in fact it looks more like something you would buy from your local sweet shop .
The process is complex yet works well enough that something that actually does taste like ice cream can be taken with you regardless of where you are , it simply won ’ t melt . And the amazing thing , it really is ice cream yet unlike most freeze-dried products the Campers Pantry / Van Diemens Land Creamery ice cream or gelato requires no water to be enjoyed , simply pop in your mouth .
It ’ s a strange sensation yet once the rich abundance of flavours enters your pallet there ’ s no turning back , it ’ s almost as good as eating a bowl of ice cream , especially if you ’ re after a quick on the road treat or after dinner sweet . For someone who ’ s a lover of ice cream a packet of the freeze-dried stuff won ’ t last long .
There ’ s no denying that this stuff is the real deal , just a little dry and crunchy , and it does quench the need for something sweet . Yes , like the colder , wetter version , Campers
