The Afflick ’ s bike is one little hot rod . A 100cc four stroke producing 54hp , or 9hp per cubic inch . Running on 50 % nitro methane through a Aisin 300 supercharger at 24psi of boost it can attain 15,000 revolutions per minute , similar to a Formula 1 engine . The little bike has been able to reach a speed of 131.6mph .
There are always some incredible bikes at this place including the magnificent Black Velocette that has run at over 190mph ( 310kph ). A fleet of super modified Harley Davidsons . There are Royal Enfield ’ s , Suzuki Hayabusa ’ s , BSA ' s , Ariel Square 4 ' s , Suzuki GT750 Water Bottle ’ s , Kawasaki H2 3 cylinder 2 strokes . All completed by the riders , men and women , who steer them to the records obtained .
The boys from Port Pirie in South Australia who , run the Water Bottle , have the actual prototype carburettors that Vance Hines developed with Mikuni . This year , on the last day , we saw some bikes go well over 200mph . Hearing them wheel spinning at that sort of speed is something you will never forget .
Green Envy came over from New Zealand . Piloted by Håkansson , it was unable to complete a full highspeed run . The heavens had opened so much that the track lay under 50 millimetres of water , spectacular images but not for racing , the longer track never reopened .
With catering and plenty of accommodation options within 30 kilometres DLRA Speed Week should be something that all adventurous motorcycle travellers add to their list . You can ride up to and on the lake , feeling a part of the spectacle . The colours and contrasts of the red desert and white lake is incredible . The sunset colours add to the atmosphere .
