how I wish children of the West could see this if they had time to look up from their screens and cocooned life . The kids here are happy and respectful , all inquisitive of the strangers on the boat .
Families move about on longtail boats , some traditional and constructed of timber , others more modern and made from fibreglass . Propulsion either by hand or longprop outboard motors . The colour and movement are otherworldly .
We continue on as people prepare meals , lunchtime is calling , chicken or fish the dinner of choice . Green vegetables , rich in vitamins , thrown in with soups . Thriving gardens grow amongst the houses , floating gardens , no less .
Kampong Luong is a world like no other , a village that provides for every need of its residents , a friendly people steeped in tradition and a way of life that challenges the demands of consumerism .
