It goes without saying that an adventure style helmet is a compromise , just like the bikes and riders they represent . Yet Bell Helmets has done what it can to improve upon the already popular MX-9 Adventure making it one of the best budget priced helmets on the market .

Multi-Directional Impact Protection System ( MIPS ), it apparently offers a superior level of protection against head trauma . Essentially MIPS is an additional layer in the helmet that acts like the brains own protective layer against concussive forces .
So , what has Bell improved upon the MX-9 ? All minor in our opinion yet areas that seem to work to give the MX-9 a level of noticeable difference . The frontal vents ( chin guard ) have a slightly different design that does improve airflow significantly . The overall airflow is also improved by a redesign of the peak , it makes a slight difference , yet the Bell still has wind noise , we think not as bad as some of the more expensive helmets on the market .
Internally the MX-9 is like the previous version , the design fits well and found to be one of the most comfortable helmets available . Lining pads can be replaced and are interchangeable with other sizes , allowing the rider to custom fit the helmet . Even eyewear is generally not a problem , we found it to be a snug fit , something that works well on rougher terrain .
The wide opening face shield offers a 180-degree field of view , and although it is said to be scratch resistant we dispute the claim , having a few slight marks from general wear . Bell says the helmets outer skin is similarly protected from wear .
As far as safety is concerned we
