The Oodnadatta Track is the first glimpse of desert that many of the riders experience . A north-west ride that takes on traditional Aboriginal routes of the past , following natural water sources provided by the Great Artesian Basin . It ’ s a chance to acclimatise , to come to terms with the inhospitable nature of the Australian desert , a chance to become accustomed to sleeping in a tent with an earth mat as a bed . Not entirely comfortable yet the spirit of true adventure .
Venturing north , toward the Northern Territory border , the lands become more hostile , yet display a beauty that only the Australian deserts can . Rich reds ,
