Nepal has a road network that was created before many western nations even existed , simple tracks passing over a mountain , following an ancient valley , precariously clinging to a cliff , for the intent of reaching another village , temple , or field . With little thought of wheeled transport these tracks were cut by hand for the sole purpose of movement . As wheeled , then motorised transport evolved so did the tracks , at a much slower pace . Some have been ‘ modernised ’ to meet the needs of mass transit , most have been widened slightly , all offer some of the worlds best adventure riding and therefore feel little need to appoint a title of “ The World ’ s … Road ”.
