little rutted , obviously wet weather plays a part in that . But it was just a gravel road . Our Chilean friend ’ s warm embrace of his appreciation of the help from strangers brought me back from my thoughts . Was it the road , or the riders skill , and maybe an inappropriate bike that was the cause of fear ? Perhaps this was the case for everyone .
We parted ways as the Ruta 40 headed north and my mind wandered to a recent ride in Nepal , a beautiful nation of roads that could easily terrify . In fact , I ’ d seen it . Suspension bridges across deep ravines , the mere thought of a big adventure bike riding across the expanse could induce a notion of horror . Mountain passes where landslides had formed their own tracks that needed to be traversed , don ’ t look down , the bottom is somewhere below there amongst the mist waiting for a fallen rider .
