race against time , nor against others , if anything , it ’ s a challenge within one ’ s self .
Then there is the unwritten law of motorcycling , ‘ no one is left behind ’, the group always finds the right way to satisfy everyone .
On the 12th , we found ourselves in Casablanca , from which we leave for Ouarzazate by aircraft , reaching the days destination late . With formalities taken care of we head straight to the hotel for a good night ’ s sleep ..
The following day we head to the garage that houses the bikes . We meet Max , the Italian mechanic , and our Moroccan crew , who will guide us and prepare meals . We have three off road vehicles , one of which is for spare parts and fuel for the motorcycles . All the Beta bikes are in pristine condition , both new and overhauled . Now we just need to leave .
As we set off the rains appear although it stops almost immediately yet the skies remain leaden . Leaving Ouarzazate we take a dirt road , in the lower reaches of the Atlas Mountains , crossing pre-desert areas with beautiful landscapes and an up and down nature characterised by different points of crossing dry waterways .
As we stop to take some photographs the rain returns , fortunately our first stop , Taznakht is just a few kilometres away . The time has come to sit in a bar and wait out the rain that has now become a deluge . The main road floods , amazing all of us to how quickly this can happen .
With the rain abating we continue on , an interesting off-road track . The landscape enjoyable offering a mix of earth and sand , the grips levels are amazingly high , no doubt compacted by the heavy rains . Devoid of dust the track undulates through the environment , it feels like we are skiing .
