TRAVERSE :
Each To Their Own
It ' s been a strange few months , for me personally . The past weekend ( February 10 - 12 ) saw the Adventure Travel Film Festival , held annually in Bright , Victoria ( Australia ) have it ' s final screenings .
After 11 years of the most inspirational , independant travel films you will see , the organisers of the ATFF have called it a day , and a sad day it is .
On the other hand I was asked to ride some of the South America continent with a rider from the USA . It was a whirlwind ride , 10,000 kilometres across three weeks in January . Not my usual slow way of travelling , stopping at everything and chatting to everyone , and one ride I struggled with ( see my article further into this issue ).
What both the ride in South America , and the films that featured over the years at the ATFF have taught me , and hopefully others , is that travel is a very personal thing and no one has a right to judge what others are doing and how they do it , after all , each to their own . We should all learn from that , a key point of travel , right ?
Rupert Shaw , and his team of volunteers at the ATFF need to be congratulated for what they have done for a decade or so , a massive void will now be felt in mid- February . What are we going to do ?
And Charisse , thank you for trusting me to help you get through the last leg of your adventure in South America . And it was certainly an adventure . It was an honour riding with you , your different view to mine of travelling taught me a lot , and for that I thank you .
