back on the bike the following morning .
During the night I was dubious that I would get a sunny day the next day as the pouring rain and thunderstorms continued into the early morning .
Morning provided a surprise after a stormy night where I ’ d woken often to the sounds of clapping thunder , the sun was out with few clouds in the sky . Stark contrast to the day before so I ’ d quickly packed up and got on the road .
The initial plan was to ride out through Arcadia Valley through to Rollestone and drop back down into the campgrounds at Carnarvon gorge . Not long after setting off I ’ d noticed field after field full of water and the few times I ’ d pulled off the road to get photos I ’ d been met with ankle deep mud . Time to abort the ride through the valley and just head straight into Carnarvon Gorge and tackle the Arcadia Valley the way home .
The ride into Carnarvon was stunning with the mountainous backdrop overseeing fields of crops and cows with the road snaking its way down into the campgrounds . There are sites dotted along the way in the lead up to the start of the gorge . I ’ d found my campground ( Breeze Holiday Park / Takaranka Bush Resort ) about four kilometres from the start of the gorge .
After setting up camp I ’ d made the rookie mistake of not putting down the sidestand when moving my bike , down came Kramer ( Yamaha Tenere XT660Z ). It was slightly embarrassing with a campground full of onlookers . Thankfully though there was no shortage of people willing to help .
Talking to one of my helpers , camped next to me , I ’ d noticed shoes and socks laid out in the sun along a log . I ’ d figured they were just airing out some smelly socks , but I quickly came to learn the next day that there
