4,000 people visit the area annually . Permits are required ; a Restricted Area permit , an Annapurna Conservation Area permit , and TIMS card . Permits require a minimum number of people to apply , and although there ’ s no maximum number anything above five requires a guide . This is a major advantage of riding with Vishu ’ s Altitude Riders team , they take care of everything as the process can only be undertaken by a Nepali company that has the required bank account . A permit costs US $ 500 for a tenday duration .
Along with the required permits to the Upper Mustang , Altitude Riders take care of everything else on the expedition . Internal flights to and from Kathmandu , accommodation , both tent and guest house , meals ( three cooked each day while on the tour ), and of course the bikes with full support . The adventurous rider just needs to bring , their personal gear , clothing for varying conditions , a sleeping bag that will cope with the cold . Of course , the most important is an open mind and the right attitude because as Bret Tkacs states , “ Attitude Matters ”.
If you want the adventure of a lifetime , into a region seldom visited , where people live traditionally and culture abounds , don ’ t hesitate to speak with Vishu at Altitude Riders so he can help you take the first steps into the Lost Tibetan Kingdom .
