riders do need to be mindful , the Altitude Riders team keep a constant watch , many understand the conditions , both as high altitude riders , guides and sherpas , in fact Vishu is a veteran of Everest accents .
Depending on the time of year , and the overnight temperatures , tents may be put aside for the occasional room in a guest house . An experience that adds to the adventure . These family run businesses are often an extension of the family ’ s home , rooms added , a basic bathroom , and shared area . The accommodation is rudimentary at best , the hosts do their best to keep the traveller comfortable and offer a real view into the living of the inhabitants of the Upper Mustang . A chance to immerse in the culture .
Reaching Lo Manthang is dependant on so many things outside of the riders influence however , riding skills shouldn ’ t be a deciding factor .
“ I generally vet for a rider with the right attitude ,” explained Bret . “ If someone says they feel they don ’ t have the skills , then I know we have someone who will make it and take something from it . Self-awareness if especially important .”
Riding the Upper Mustang is not extreme , yet an awareness of your abilities and the environment around you is important . Conditions can , and do , change extremely quickly . It ’ s about riding to a group , taking
