At almost AU $ 1,000 the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV3 tent is not cheap yet it offers many features that any long distance , long term , motorcycle traveller will find useful . But useful enough to warrant the high price ?
The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV3 tent weighs in at a packed weight of just 2.8 kilograms , with a rolled size of just 51 centimetres by 20cm , perfect
for bike travel . It ’ s not as small as some others but small enough to fit most gear bags . The advantage with the Copper Spur HV3 is the erected size .
With a floor space of 3.8m2 it ’ s plenty of space for two travellers and their gear , the Copper Spur HV3 is rated to for three people yet like most tents that claim similar it just simply doesn ’ t work , use it as a two person or even a very spacious single person tent .
Including high quality materials and construction the Copper Spur HV3 is a beefed-up version of the successful ultra-light tents in the Big Agnes Copper Spur range . The HV3 is a true expedition quality tent and able to withstand high winds and rain , and even a level of snow . Unfortunately , the Copper Spur HV3 is rated at 3 + season tent , this seems doubtful due to the over design and construction , we doubt it would cope well with extreme cold and heavy snow .
Despite the unrealistic claim , the Copper Spur HV3 did cope well with temperatures below freezing , it would be better if it included a double membrane design , instead of screen and fly . It matters little and would suffice for most motorcycle travellers .
Another design flaw we found while using the tent daily was the slip of material that covers the external zippers . In theory a useful design
