African conservation parks switch to Swedish electric motorcycles to combat wildlife poaching

Following a successful project together with the Southern African Wildlife College , a growing number of African parks now have their park rangers use silent , solarpowered CAKE Kalk AP electric motorcycles to combat poachers and curate wildlife .
CAKE , the Swedish maker of premium lightweight , electric motorcycles , today announced that it is expanding its presence in Africa – a direct result of the ongoing Electric Bush Bike Anti-Poaching Project together with the Southern African Wildlife College ( SAWC ). Multiple parks and conservation societies have placed orders for the Kalk AP , a rugged electric motorcycle developed to stand up to the extremest of terrain , acknowledging the benefits that the solarpowered two-wheeler brings .
“ The Kalk AP is a perfect demonstration of how electric motorcycles can replace and exceed the efficiency and usefulness of traditional fossil-fuelled vehicles . We are happy to see that more parks will benefit from our project and look forward to welcoming more African clients to the CAKE family ”, commented Stefan Ytterborn , Founder and CEO of CAKE . A game-changer in the wild One of the commercial clients now using the Kalk AP is the Wildlife Conservation Alliance . Running conservation projects and sanctuaries covering hundreds of thousands of acres across the African continent , the WCA was one of the first groups to put the Kalk AP to the test .
“ We are very impressed by the CAKE Kalk AP . It ’ s silent , meaning that it is effective for anti-poaching purposes , but also that we disturb these sensitive environments significantly less . We also see great savings in not having to transport fuel to remote areas , this is a game changer for our operations , comments Ivan Carter , Founder of The Wildlife Conservation Alliance . A successful partnership CAKE partnered with the Southern African Wildlife College ( SAWC ), a South Africa based training facility , in 2021 . The electric off-road motorcycle Kalk AP is a direct result of the collaboration , a customized model , built to park ranger specifications , that is distributed by the SAWC across the continent , for use by rangers engaged in animal conservation and anti-poaching .
In sensitive ecosystems , the use of clean , silent electric vehicles disturb less than their loud , fossil counterparts – facilitating less invasive forms of patrolling , while increasing the chance of catching poachers off guard . Additionally , included Goal Zero power stations eliminates the need of costly fuel supply chains , with helicopters being used for hard to reach areas , and storage solutions in the wild .
To support the SAWC , CAKE also sells the Kalk AP to regular consumers , with 3 % of the proceeds directly benefiting the anti-poaching project .
