THE ZIMBABWEAN PSYCHIATRIST ' S HAT Spencer James Conway 2022 ISBN 978-0-9956290-7-3
He ’ s back , a few years on from his last offering , his last adventure . Spencer James Conway , and partner Cathy Nel , have taken their aging Yamaha Ténéré 660 around the South American continent and the result ; The Zimbabwean Psychiatrist ’ s Hat . What the hell ?
An introspective look at the authors self through the experiences of South America , and as usual with Conway , you ’ ll laugh more than you cry , although there is a bit of that this time .
Conway has a unique way of spinning a tale , he ’ s the first to ask the question and put his view across , not judgemental , just critical where it ’ s needed , often at his own expense as well as that of the powers that be .
Conway masterfully mixes the irreverent with observations of that surrounding him , it works well , the reader is asked to stay and finds it hard to leave . It ’ s travel writing beyond that of just riding a motorcycle , Conway prompts the questions that are often needed .
The laughs come via a series of events only the best comedic mind could conjure , yet Conway ’ s experiences are real ; giant spiders , tattooed gangsters , naked prostitutes , he experiences it all . The tears ? We ’ ll let the author cover that .
Throughout The Zimbabwean Psychiatrist ’ s Hat Conway explores the lands , the politics , the cultures , and himself … and the Zimbabwean psychiatrist ’ s opinion ? Conway is ‘ sane ’. Really ? It matters little , The Zimbabwean Psychiatrist ’ s Hat is an outstanding read .
CONQUERING THE IRON GIANT Graham Jarvis 2019 ISBN 978-1-4746128-6-9
Regarded as one of the greatest Hard Enduro riders , Graham Jarvis has been on an adventure like so few .
Conquering The Iron Giant tells of Jarvis ’ path to winning the world ’ s toughest races , from his junior days through Trials and then Hard Enduro , Jarvis ’ story is compelling , yet one rarely told . Outside of his discipline he ’ s rarely recognised . This is his telling of the story .
Conquering The Iron Giant is heavy with his early days , to be expected yet more detail of the fabled Erzberg Rodeo or Red Bull Romaniacs would be appreciated , this story could ’ ve even been two volumes .
Ghost written by James Hogg , the help provided to Jarvis works , it ’ s the motorcyclists ’ first attempt at writing and the result is worth it , Conquering The Iron Giant whilst having a few issues is well worth the read , especially if you ’ re into the harder aspects of motorcycling , adventure , or racing . Jarvis and Hogg have constructed an interesting story , a story that needed to be told of a little known , yet quite possibly the greatest motorcycle racer of all time .
