stood and started moving , she was looking at a warthog walking by in the distance . Her muscles were tense , ours even more so . Within seconds , she sprinted , and we witnessed her hunt , just as in a documentary , but this time it ’ s real and it ’ s happening in front of our eyes ! The lioness tried to run , but the warthog was too far and too hasty … this time , the hunt was unsuccessful .
Our next destination was the Lower Zambesi National Park , another great park located at the border with Zimbabwe . We rode back to “ civilisation ” and during a quick lunch break at a local tavern we became the main attraction for all the residents of the area .
Everybody was looking at our motorcycles and riding attire while we enjoyed a dish of “ Nshima ”, Zambia ’ s staple food consisting of a porridge served with meat or fish and vegetables . We were shown the traditional way of eating it using only our hands , using the porridge as a scoop for sauces and relish , it ’ s not simple and we felt all the other customers ’ eyes on us as we tried , but with a little practice we succeeded and earnt the approval of everyone .
We got back in the saddle , riding across the Munali hills , on a perfectly smooth , exhilarating , and winding tarmac road . We enjoyed many good curves on our way !
Once in Chirundu , a small town at the border with Zimbabwe , tarmac gave way to gravel as we went on to Lower Zambezi . The large and well graded gravel road allowed us to ride safely , and we could appreciate the fast-paced off-road riding for many miles , also thanks to our Honda Transalp 600 that were proving to be the ideal motorcycles for this type of tour , light and easy to maneuver .
The trail led us deeper and deeper into the bush ; occasionally , as if appearing out of nowhere , we came across men carrying firewood or women carrying baskets on their heads , the forest is constellated with small traditional villages .
