Bikes roared and screamed , riders huffed and puffed , both pushed to the limit in an attempt to summit the giant . Onlookers cheered and laughed , that camaraderie again that many will cherish a lifetime .
The 40-metre monster a fitting tribute to the Frontline Safari that raised almost $ 40,000 for Soldier On . A crew of 57 celebrated well into the night at the Birdsville Hotel , an icon of outback Australian hospitality , to have crossed the challenge that is the Simpson Desert . For many it was the first time , for some they will return . The desert has an aura that draws one in . The Frontline Safari will return in 2023 .
With heavy heads , yet enlightened hearts , the following day saw everyone take on the last challenge . The track named for Birdsville and the return to Marree .
A calm and a relief fell over all participants . A quite beer and a hearty feed , many spoke of the adventure and how it had changed their belief and their ability . Some riders honest , they ’ d rarely ridden sand prior . Friendships newly made , cemented for a lifetime with tales of adventure and a worthy cause that would see most take on many new challenges .
For many the Frontline Safari is a once in a lifetime experience , a chance to ride with like-minded people , to challenge oneself , to experience a unique landscape
