The pre-ride nervousness was soon dispelled as riders reached the small community to which the Oodnadatta Track is named . The Pink Roadhouse , the port of call , stories of adventure ensued .
“ I can ’ t believe you guys do this day after day ,” exclaimed Jeremy Cowley , of the Dirt Bike Burrito podcast . He was referring to overlanding adventure motorcycle travellers , dirt bike riders seemingly unaccustomed to 400 kilometres of outback track in one day , day after day .
Riding technique , unfamiliar riding conditions , pure bad luck ? Possibly a combination of all , more likely the latter . Day two saw the first casualty of the Frontline Safari .
Riding toward the Mount Dare Hotel and Store , the last place for provisions before crossing the Simpson , a rider caught out by deep sand and shale . A ride over the handlebars resulted in a ride with the Royal Flying Doctors Service . Professional medical help , provided by Clay Marks , organiser of the Frontline Safari , and Robert Cox of NXTADV , ensured Katherine was well looked after whilst a number of riders provided support and comfort .
