Uprating the suspension on your bike is something all ‘ adventure ’ riders should consider . Why ? Most bike manufacturers construct the suspension with a generic base setting , and for most that is assuming the rider weighs around 70 – 80 kilograms . Real world ? No !
TracTive Suspension has a range of products that assist with finding the right setup and creating a much greater riding experience . One such product is the eX-CITE shock , suitable for many bikes however we evaluated on a 2016 BMW F800GSA set for a rider of around 100kg plus a little more allowed for riding gear .
The eX-CITE shock is a simple plug and play
application , and within 30 minutes you can have the OEM shock replaced with the TracTive setup . Plug and play means the TracTive eX-CITE is compatible with the GS ’ s ESC system . The beauty of the TracTive system is that it responds much quicker than that offered by BMW , or any manufacturer , through a much larger adjustment range .
All TracTive shocks are linked to the companies webpage through an included QR code that provides all settings , as well as information and advice . These things are easy to get right .
Keeping everything intact is an aluminium alloy body that improves thermal stability and heat dissipation , this means the internals can be kept at a consistent temperature offering reliable performance .
This shock is equipped with the PDSII anti bottoming system which is effectively a cushion that only becomes active when absorbing high speed compression energy . By preventing a hard bottoming of the shock , it gives increased comfort and safety for the rider and minimised stress and damage to motorcycle frame and parts . It consists of a 2nd damping piston mounted on top of the main damping piston - which enters a cup and creates an extra damping level at the end of the compression stroke .
The extra tough preload adjuster assembly has an adjustment range of 15mm - typically double the stock range and a lot more than all aftermarket brands .
