Looking for the right tent can be like finding the right bike , all offer excellent features , some fail where others excel . On the road you need something , reliable , high quality , and that offers protection from the elements . And most of all it needs to pack small and light .
The Tasman 2-person tent by Adventureco is a fantastic addition to any motorcycle travellers kit . Weighing in at just 2.3 kilograms it ’ s one of the lightest 2 person tents on the market , and the packed size is just as impressive with dimensions of around 45 x 18 centimetres , so small it will easily fit in a backpack .
The Tasman 2 is
made from robust 210T Ripstop Fabric with a waterproof rating of PU4000 , while the floor has a similar PU4000 rated 210D Oxford fabric , an additional footprint of similar material is included . Protection from the little things that bite is via 100 % Polyester 40d No-See-Um mesh , and it really does keep the buggers out .
Construction takes place using a single pole system , connected by elasticated strings , it ’ s as simple as clicking together . While holding the Tasman 2 in place is a series of lightweight alloy pegs , that are as strong as anything we ’ ve seen , plus four reflective guy lines . In a pinch neither the pegs nor lines are needed .
Assessing the Tasman 2 on the road was simple , after two goes we had this thing assembled in no time , in fact the quickest was just under three minutes , it really is that easy .
The Tasman 2 is rated as a two person , three season tent . We can ’ t disagree with the claim of being three season , we saw it through 70 kilometre per hour winds and driving rain , sure it flapped around a little , but it remained intact . The water was never a problem , until trying to set up whilst raining , the nature of the design means that some water will get in until the fly sheet is fully assembled . We attempted to put the fly up before the main inner tent , we failed .
The size , well , like all tents with a size rating , it ’ s best to ignore or at least half it . The Tasman 2 can fit two people , but then there is nowhere to put you gear . We found placing gear within the two vestibules on either side of the tent , covering the doors , was a futile exercise , there just isn ’ t
