So impressed with the gear that Paul approached the Australian importer and a little with his tongue planted in his cheek suggested that if he ever wanted to sell the business he ’ d be happy to make an offer . And so , it happened .
Paul visited the Bumot factory in Bulgaria and was immediately impressed .
“ It ’ s a small team run by Asen and Anna Angelov , they have an engineering approach , engineers who ride and know what they want ,” he explained . “ They seemed to be impressed that someone from Australia would visit them , so the deal was struck .”
Bumot Australia is now based in a small town in the Australian bush , starting from December 2019 .
Our chat continued as we walked amongst the paniers , both soft and hard , the numerous luggage options , jackets , pants , and tyres . A hugely impressive venture in what many would suggest is the middle of nowhere .
“ How about we go for a ride ?” Paul ’ s suggestion wasn ’ t passed up . We set off into the hinterland of the Otways , with a fellow rider , Dirk , along for the adventure .
The warm , humid morning soon turned sour and with that came torrential rain . It is the Otways after all . Paul ’ s riding demonstrated he knows what he ’ s doing , someone perfect for advising on and recommending adventure riding gear .
