The bike was almost crying out for a little dirt . At one point , we veered down a wrong turn and got to ride a short strip of gravel . The beast was so comfortable and smooth . I could not believe it . I wanted more .
After Worcester , we had a long stretch to Robertson and for once , it was us passing everyone . We flew by the rattling trucks and even passed some motorbikes . The KTM certainly was a head turner . There were lots of waves and stares .
When we got to Robertson , I suggested a little detour . I knew there was a nice stretch of gravel between the towns of McGregor and Bonnievale . I got Mike to check Google Maps to confirm that I remembered correctly . I was right and we turned off the main road , passing over the river again and cruised along a beautiful smooth tarred road . The riding conditions could not have been better . No traffic , no wind and the sun had just warmed the air enough to make it comfortable .
Just before McGregor , we turned onto the dirt . The road was in excellent condition and Mike got to really open the throttle . There were some dips and rises , but the road only had gentle bends and with no other vehicles , it felt like we were the only two people on the planet . We stopped at a point in the middle of nowhere to eat a packed lunch which
I had prepared earlier . The only sounds we could hear while eating those sandwiches , was the tick of the engine as it cooled . Absolute bliss .
After leaving Bonnievale , the road got a lot more challenging . The gravel was rougher and more broken up from use . There were also more vehicles sharing the route and we had to ride carefully . The bike just ploughed through everything . When we were forced to take the small gaps , Mike just twisted us through . When there were rises ; we thumped up . When the bends came , we leaned over and cruised .
We reached the small settlement of Stormsvlei quickly and both felt a little sad to leave the small road
