was gone . This was all the proof I needed that it was possible to use wind pressure to move oil .”
With the basics completed time came for the fine tuning . A number of areas needed to be addressed , controlling the oil flow whilst riding and when stopped , and how to get the oil to the chain . He says the fun part was the experimentation where most of it was completed while out riding .
The solution too was quite simple once the nuances of fluid dynamics were understood . A small hole to break the vacuum when air pressure dropped , flow rate was addressed from customer feedback and the oil application came by affixing a small felt pad to the chain slider . It is so simple it ’ s perfect , although Motobriiz is constantly being reviewed and redesigned , including an adjustable flow version which allows for compensation of temperature fluctuations and a wider range of oils .
“ We have also developed new products , such as brake bleeder kits , sold under the brand name , Air Zapper and Power Stick ,” he adds . “ We have also developed and launched a few other products in other industries . The product that we are most proud of is the Motobriiz Chain Oiler . It started everything for us .”
As Mike continues he laughs that the Motobriiz was a simple idea , for his personal use , and it quickly turned into more . Although , he is very quick to point out that initial comments took their toll .
“ Once Motobriiz was launched I was checking the internet for any comments ,” he explains . “ The very first comment I read on a forum was ‘ this has got to be the stupidest idea I have ever seen ’.”
He said this made his heart sink , yet spirits were quickly lifted when positive comments came flooding in . The general public were very receptive and encouraging when it came to continued marketing of the Motobriiz , still nervous Mike went ahead and continued manufacturing the product .
“ We were very excited to learn that Sam Manicom , the great worldwide adventure rider and author , reviewed the Motobriiz oiler on an 8,000 mile ride around Arizona ,” Mike says Sam gave the Motobriiz a great review . “ We were excited about that because we knew that a rider like Sam would certainly put it through its paces .”
The application of Motobriiz has come in many forms , not just those who ride .
