VANS town of Kas , in the courtyard of the town ' s customs , where they issued me a " leave the country WITHOUT the bike " permit so I could travel to Thailand to dive in the winter . I left the bike covered and for three months I was absent then I returned to pick it up and paid the fee . All good ... except that , this time I wanted to enter again with the bike through the Ipsala border post . A customs officer told me that I owed an exorbitant amount of money for not having respected the time limit for the bike to stay in Turkish territory , the year before .
“ Then how did the custom ’ s officer let me leave your country ?”, I asked .
“ You don ' t appear in the " system " he answered , looking at me with an ugly expression .
With my passport in hand , he headed for the office while another suggested that if my papers were not in order , he would have to check all the belongings I was carrying .
I have experience in crossing borders , I have done it in Central America dozens of times , in the United States , in Canada and all over Europe and no one has ever checked anything . As an experienced traveller , customs officials know they are not dealing with an amateur and are respectful .
Minutes later he came back and without even looking at the officer who had intimidated me with the check , he told me :
