PLANNING FOR THE UNEXPECTED

They say you should plan for the unexpected , and whoever ‘ they ’ are , is one hundred percent correct , particularly when you run motorbike tours .

It ’ s the second day of a two-day Little Desert ride I promote as , the ‘ Little Desert Dust Up Tour ’. I have six guests on the tour and five support staff . Paul is my lead rider , a veteran of 45 plus years of riding . My two sweep riders are Scooter and Dickie , both very experienced riders and good friends who make wonderful sweep riders because of their patience and general love of life .
Graeme is driving my support vehicle and always has his work cut out making lunch , breakfast for the group and picking up the odd motorbike that says , ‘ THERE ’ LL BE NO MORE RIDING TODAY ’.
At the end of this day my team would utterly understand how important each of their roles would be . We left Murrayville , the location of our overnight stay and started our journey back towards the Border Track , a fantastic sandy track that runs along the Victoria - South Australia border . On this day , our route would see us follow the Border Track for close to 240 kilometres , starting from Fire Break Track not far out of Murrayville .
As with our normal practice I asked Paul if I could ride ahead of the group to put up my drone to capture footage of everyone riding past . This is our regular tour practice and on most occurrences when we time it correctly it is well worth the effort . I like to document each tour with a video so my guests have a memory of the tour they can revisit with family and friends for years to come .
