this place incredibly special , and any trip would be extra special with a visit to Bettys .
We enjoyed stops for biltong , pies , and more on the road home . You can of course turn down to visit the southern tip of Africa and ride through the Overstrand . There are many excellent eateries in Hermanus and Kleinmond , a fantastic penguin colony and a lush botanical garden in Betty ’ s Bay . Pringle Bay has a world of good eateries and an impressive beach . The ride along Clarence drive which hugs the eastern bank of False Bay is certainly special .
Clarence Drive is a magnificent scenic coastal that stretched over 21 km , hugging the wild turquoise Cape coastline all the way . If you like passes with lots of corners , then this one is for you , as it contains seventyseven bends , curves , and corners of which four are more than 150 degrees . The road is in a beautiful condition . We had run out of time though and chose to stick to the national road back to the mother city .
We did one last stop off though . At OuMeul bakery in a town called Riviersonderend ( River with no
ending ). This meat pie stop is the original one and should never be missed . Their pepper steak pie is a mountain of buttery pastry stuffed with a mountain of gravied meat . Its bloody brilliant and a perfect lunch time treat .
A short distance after the Bot river turn off , you will find a small farm stall on the left called Houwhoek farm stall . If you somehow missed OuMeul in Riviersonderend , this place is also famous for its selection of meat pies . The sausage roll is my top recommendation here . Just take one though . It ’ s huge and very filling . Absolutely delicious .
After that , you scream down Sir Lowry ’ s Pass and hit the main freeway so this will be your last stop off before hitting the last hour of riding back to the city .
We returned the Sym Citicom to the team at ScootDR . What an amazingly good scooter .
With the weather and wind at our rear for most the ride along the Garden route , we were able to really stretch the scooters legs . As we crossed the Garden Route , on our ride west , we gave our ride a real work out . All I can say , is that SYM hit a home run with this one . It ’ s super comfortable , there is more power and speed than you will ever need , plenty of packing space , brakes that are responsive and the best part , it ’ s not a gas guzzler at all .
In Cape Town , every bike is available to hire . From monstrous Harley Davidson ’ s to BMW GS and KTMs . We chose to do the trip on a scooter . Just to prove a few things . If a big guy and a blind guy , can travel on a little scooter , in any weather , and have fun , anyone can tackle the trip .
It was nice to arrive back in Cape Town , but I have a little admission to make here . As Big Mike lane split the traffic that blocked our way near the city , I smelled the pollution with each breath . As my throat started to burn , I started pondering our next ride . Where could we next go explore and what would we next be taking for a spin ? It did not matter , if we were on two wheels and out riding , nothing else mattered . CV
