further , was another rock ‘ n roll themed place . Diesel and Cream restaurant has for many years become a regular stop off with passing bikers and people on long road trips . Their milkshakes and burgers have a reputation of being the best on the route . After devouring a bacon and mature cheddar burger and chasing it with a ‘ chocolate-chocolate ’ brownie shake , I can totally agree and see how owner Dean has earned this reputation . We left feeling stuffed to the brim .
We had chosen the worst possible day to do this ride . The wind was pumping right in our faces for most of the way . The only time we got a break from the strong headwind , is when it caught us from the side . We travelled slowly with lots of stops and lots of hiding from the sausage machine of rain squalls that kept us on our toes . At Diesel and Cream , we were seated right next to a roaring fire where we could dry out our gear and dethaw ourselves . It was awfully hard to leave . When Dean offered us accommodation in a couple of their upstairs suites , we almost grabbed the opportunity . But alas , we still had a few hours of riding and more appointments further down the road . With the sun edging closer to the horizon , we buzzed off East into more wind and rain .
Our last stop was a quick break at another route 62 landmark :
Ronnie ’ s Sex Shop . The title may seem peculiar , but it is all intentional . Years earlier , Ronnie intended opening a roadside fruit and vegetable stand . He painted the words Ronnie ’ s Shop in bright red on the side of the white-washed building . That night , some of his mates came along and inserted the word SEX to the signage as a prank . This brought many laughs and curious commuters could not resist stopping . Ronnie , wisely , left the addition and although , today , Ronnie ’ s Sex Shop is more of a bar and toilet break , it has become one of the most photographed landmarks along the route .
